Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

(synopsis taken from Goodreads)

I read this book back in 2012 for the first time. It has taken me forever to finely feel confident that I can review this wonderful and amazing book and MAYBE do it justice. As some may know J. L. Armentrout is hands down my favorite author. This was the first book of hers that I ever had the pleasure of reading and for me it was this incredible experience. The Lux Series has since become my most loved series and one I recommend to every reader whenever I'm asked.

In Obsidian we are first introduced into the incredible Lux world. It follows Katy, your average teenage girl who loves books and blogs about them (because seriously, who wouldn't want to talk about books?!). She is one of the most awesome female leads I have ever read. She's not perfect which is something that immediately drew me into her, made her more...real to me. She's been through some really challenging things that no young teenage girl should be forced to go through but she is not a weak character. She does not let her past make her whiny or seem incompetent. And I absolutely adore that about her!

Katy is the new girl in a small town that has a bit of an air of mystery around it. As if being the new girl isn't rough enough it doesn't help that the next door neighbor,  who is drop dead gorgeous by the way, is a total douche-canoe. Enter Daemon Black. Every girl's dream book-boyfriend with the dark hair, flashing green eyes and this incredibly witty, albeit douch-y, humor. The interactions between them draw you in and even though Daemon's a little rough around the edges you keep rooting for him, because he's just that type of character that you just have insta-love for.

"He was probably the hottest guy I’d ever seen in real life, and he was a total douche."

This first book in the Lux series is an incredible introduction into the world of glow-worm aliens (haha!) and all that is amazing about Daemon Black. This book has been so life-changing for me. It was the first time ever that I was (and still am) incredibly passionate about the characters. Armentrout built this believeable world to where I'm sure if I ever go to West Virginia there will be aliens who are just trying to blend in. Everyone needs to read this book, or really any book by Armentrout. She has woven together words in such a beautiful way that you find yourself immersed in a world that is more than it appears. Daemon and Katy are relationship goals and Jennifer L. Armentrout is author goals!

"Beautiful face. Beautiful body. Horrible attitude. It was the holy trinity of hot boys."
