Dangerous secrets and forbidden desires lead to shocking consequences… Don’t miss book two of the fantastical Harbinger trilogy from #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout.

“Jennifer L. Armentrout’s intoxicating new fantasy is her best yet!” — New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter on Storm and Fury

A half human, half angel and her bonded gargoyle protector must work with demons to stop the apocalypse while avoiding falling in love. The Harbinger is coming…but who or what is it? All of humankind may fall if Trinity and Zayne can’t win the race against time as dark forces gather.

As tensions rise, they must stay close together and patrol the DC streets at night, seeking signs of the Harbinger, an entity that is killing Wardens and demons with no seeming rhyme or reason. Forbidden to be with each other, Zayne and Trinity fight their feelings and turn to unusual sources for help—the demon Roth and his cohorts. But as deaths pile up and they uncover a sinister plot involving the local high school and endangering someone dear to Zayne, Trin realizes she is being led…herded…played for some unknown end. As anger builds and feelings spiral out of control, it becomes clear that rage may be the ruin of them all.
(synopsis taken from Goodreads)

Rage and Ruin picks up where we were left in Storm and Fury, except this time the stakes feel much higher. Trinity has suffered a major loss and is now questioning everything around her and her past due to the brutal betrayal she faced. Unfortunately, though, she doesn’t have much time to truly grieve her loss because pressure from the Harbinger is beginning to fall on them. I’d have to say, things are much more intense in Rage and Ruin. It moves at a blessedly fast pace which made it a quick read despite being a large book. We also get a more in-depth look into Trinity and who she is when she’s lost and trying to find her way. R&R is hands down a major self-discovery book for Trinity. Despite having lost her best friend and former protector, she has shown how adaptive she is as a character and finally begins to recognize the morally grey area between good and evil, and even ventures into the grey herself.

Those of us who are longtime series fans will appreciate the frequent appearances of a certain haughty crown prince and Layla, also our favorite broker demon as well. Something I really appreciated is the bond that Roth and Trinity build, especially throughout this book. I seriously fangirl and am totally team Roth but it made me appreciate him all the more as a character how he helps Trinity, and Zayne, even while sometimes making it seem he’d rather be anywhere else.
I’ve always admired Zayne and we finally see him coming more into himself and becoming more confident in his choices, accepting that he doesn’t necessarily belong with the Wardens – and that’s okay. He is a hands down wonderful seeing-eye-Warden for Trinity lol. I will also say I was wrong the entire time on who the Harbinger was and I’m totally here for that plot twist.

There is a lot of hype around the ending because WTF, it deserves it. No spoilers but WHAT?! I honestly may have screeched out loud when I read it because things are going to be BONKERS in the next book (I’m ready for it now!). Don’t let it hold you back though or wait to read just because we’ve got a bit of a wait until book three, believe me, you don’t wanna miss out on the smexiness 😉.
